Cerner has selected its team to help implement a new electronic health record (EHR) system for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Last year, the VA announced Cerner would replace its VistA EHR system in a push for interoperability and to modernize the records system. In May, the department awarded Cerner a $10 billion, 10-year contract for the VA EHR project.
The company announced its 24-member team of “industry leaders and innovators” on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The team will provide experience and expertise to the VA EHR project and will come together to outline its strategy during the Cerner Health Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, this month, according to a press release.

Our nation’s Veterans deserve the highest quality care and we are confident we have brought the right players to this team to succeed in our collective mission.”
By switching to Cerner, the VA will be on the same records system as the U.S. Department of Defense.
“Cerner has brought together some of this country’s brightest industry leaders to transform veteran health care delivery,” VA Secretary Robert Wilkie said in a statement. “This team will create a single longitudinal health record that can facilitate the efficient exchange of data among military care facilities, VA facilities and the thousands of civilian health care providers where current and former service members receive care.”
