Clarify Health Solutions Welcomes Former Physician Leaders Drs. Jack Cochran and Tom Barber as Strategic Advisors

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — January 6, 2017—Clarify Health Solutions, Inc., an innovative company that is integrating artificial intelligence with clinical workflow optimization analytics, announced today that two prominent physicians have joined the company as strategic advisors. Jack Cochran, MD and Tom Barber, MD, draw on their experience from leadership roles at major healthcare systems to bring deep clinical and administrative expertise to Clarify Health, where they will further strengthen the company’s leadership team.

Clarify Health has built a breakthrough digital care guidance system that seamlessly integrates powerful analytics, artificial intelligence, smart workflows and real-time patient navigation. The company’s care-centric analytics engine, which currently runs on data from over 150 million claims, three million patients and a million physicians, uses AI to surface actionable insights that hospitals need to identify and capture real value. For example, Clarify Health’s platform highlights opportunities to optimize workflows, understand variations in care, and stratify patient populations to provide personalized interventions throughout a patient’s care journey.

Dr. Cochran, an advocate for healthcare reform, as well as frequent speaker and author, spent over 25 years as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon. In addition to his clinical practice, he is a prominent physician leader who serves as a member of University of California at San Francisco’s Global Health Advisory Group. He previously served as CEO and executive director of the Permanente Federation, the national leadership organization of the regional Permanente Medical Groups, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Quality Forum, the Alliance of Community Health Plans and the American Medical Group Foundation.

“Many companies focus on just a small piece of what’s broken in healthcare but those fragmented technologies are often too siloed to make a significant impact. Clarify Health is tackling the entirety of America’s healthcare crisis, with a multi-faceted solution that supports providers, patients, and even payers,” said Cochran. “Their mission, to improve the lives of both patients and those who care for them, resonated with me as I’ve seen first-hand how challenging it can be for providers to engage patients and increase efficiency, without the enablement of real-time data and smarter technology. I’m excited to partner with the Clarify Health team to transform the way we communicate and collaborate across the continuum of care in 2017, and for many years to come.”

Dr. Barber, who has extensive experience in change management and operational improvement for hospitals, is a practicing orthopedic surgeon and physician leader. He is the chair of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery’s (AAOS) Council on Advocacy. Dr. Barber has held regional and national leadership roles at the AAOS and the American Joint Replacement Registry. His work has been highlighted in many industry publications and he is a frequent speaker on a variety of healthcare topics.

“The shift from volume to value has serious repercussions for healthcare providers, especially those in orthopedics who are among the first to experience this new reality. Not surprisingly, they’ve found that it’s difficult to maximize value when there are so many barriers to increasing the quality and efficiency of care,” said Barber. “Clarify Health’s innovative platform provides the analytics to streamline care delivery, empowering both providers who are struggling to get results and patients who want to take control of their healthcare journey. That’s exactly what we need in healthcare today—and I’m pleased to help bring this ground-breaking solution to organizations across the country.”

As strategic advisors, Drs. Cochran and Barber support Clarify Health by providing insights and counsel based on their clinical expertise. They provide detailed input into Clarify Health’s software design, best-practice clinical pathways, and integration into clinical workflows. In addition, Drs. Cochran and Barber draw from their deep experience as physician leaders to support Clarify Health in the implementation of its solutions.

“Value-based care places new demands on all of the stakeholders in our healthcare ecosystem. Dr. Cochran and Dr. Barber have a real-world understanding of these challenges. Their knowledge and insights are critical to Clarify Health’s ability to deliver distinctive value to our customers,” said Jean Drouin, MD, CEO and co-founder of Clarify Health. “They believe in our mission to improve healthcare, as well as our ability to make a meaningful impact. Even more importantly, they inspire our team as we continue developing life-changing solutions for patients and those who care for them.”
