Call for COVID-19 help goes out from New York to techies wherever they are

New York City’s status as the consensus epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis in the U.S. may help the entire Empire State set the national bar for scaling up to respond.

That’s the hope of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, whose office has put out a call for skilled tech workers to volunteer for 90-day stints as members of a COVID-19 “technology SWAT team.”

In an online call for interested parties, the office says the need is greatest for professionals with experience in data science, software development/engineering, hardware deployment, end-user support and other areas of IT expertise.

The effort’s coordinators are hoping for a robust response from teams or cohorts of individuals from single institutions in the Eastern and Central time zones. However, “we are open to the west coast as well,” the call to action states.
