After announcing its plans to switch to Epic EHR and revenue cycle systems, Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic now plans to sell the IT vendor its 62,000-square-foot data center.
The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reports the two organizations have entered into a sale-leaseback deal in which the asset owner sells the asset and then leases it from the new owner. In this case, Mayo is selling the data center to Epic and then plans to lease it for at least four years. Mayo has the option to continue the deal after the four years is up.
As part of Mayo's plan to transition to Epic, the vendor also is building a $6.1 million electronic substation that will support the enhanced needs of the data center. Epic has been working with Rochester Public Utilities to construct the new substation. The vendor will pay for the majority of the project, with the utility provider contributing slightly more than $1 million for additional features.
