AI system predicts risk of developing type 2 diabetes

Shanghai researchers have created an artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to identify people most at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, according to a report by the South China Morning Post.

According to the report, the “Ruining Knows Sugar” machine learning system was developed by Beijing-based tech company 4 Paradigm with the goal of identifying “those most at risk of developing type 2 diabetes within the next three years.”

The system used the medical information of 170,000 people—with and without diabetes—and was able to learn and make predictions. According to the report, the system achieved 88 percent accuracy and was able to provide forecasts for people at risk of developing diabetes within the next 15 years.
